Toa Samoan has been camped at Return to Paradise Resort for the last week for their training camp in preparation for the historical match against Fiji in Apia this Saturday 8th October. The team is made up the best Samoan league players from the NRL and around the world.
Coach Matt Parish chose to bring the team back to Return to Paradise Resort as this was where the team had stayed in the build up to the Four Nations in 2014.
The Gary Cooper Lounge was idea for the team’s meeting room with wifi, table tennis, pool table, datashow and screen and massage beds all available. Right outside is the outdoor fitness trail and an icebath. Two of the Resort’s trained masseurs worked with the team physiotherapist to look after the players each day before and after training including Resort Activities Director and former Sevens Legend Mikaele Pesamino.
“We appointed Mikaele to help look after the team as he has experienced international travel in a high performance team environment. We want to give Toa Samoa the best base we possibly can give them to train from,” says Resort Director Ramona Su’aPale’ “Our international chefs mean that we can adapt menus to deliver the specialist nutritional requirements of high performance athletes.”
Highlight for most of the team? The beach, the family atmosphere and the fiafia night.
“It is important that the players are kept in peak conditioning while in camp, so when we bring out internationals into Samoa, we only use accommodation providers who can deliver at the highest standards,” says Tagaloa Su’a Faafouina, President of Samoa League; “Return to Paradise Resort was a great choice for us and we will certainly be using the Resort again as a base for our high performance teams.”
The boys loved the resort with many booking to bring their familes back for holidays during the off-season. Rumours are that some players are already planning to bring their weddings to Return to Paradise. And as coach Matt Parish said, “we are definitely bringing our future teams to Return to Paradise,”
