Toa Samoa has been camped at Return to Paradise Resort for the last week for their training camp in preparation for the Four Nations. The team is made up of the best Samoan league players from the NRL and around the world. Coach Matt Parish had originally intended for the team to spend one or two nights at Return to Paradise before moving to a hotel in Apia for their more intensive training camp. However when he inspected the resort, he decided to base the training camp there. “This is the resort that Samoan people come to see,” said Mr Parish; “And we can experience the best of both worlds – a beautiful resort stetting that has what we need to prepare for international competition.” The Gary Cooper Lounge was ideal for the team’s meeting room with Wi-Fi, table tennis, Cable TV and massage beds
all available. Two of the resort’s trained masseurs worked with the team physiotherapist to look after the players each day before and after training. In addition, the resort’s international chefs maintained the special nutrition of the athletes by adapting the menu to accommodate their requirements.
This enables their continued high performance on the field. Besides the team’s busy training schedule, the highlight for them was the beach and the fiafia night. “It is important that the players are kept in peak conditioning while in camp, so when we bring out internationals into Samoa, we only use accommodation providers who can deliver at the
highest standards,” says Tagaloa Su’a Faafouina, President of Samoa League; “Return to Paradise Resort was a great choice for us and we will certainly be using the resort again as a base for our high performance teams.” The boys loved the resort with many making bookings to bring their families back for holidays during the off-season.
